One dead after Pitkin mobile home fire

PITKIN, La. (KPLC) - The Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s (SFM) Office is currently investigating a mobile home fire in Pitkin that left one person dead.

Around 5:15 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 20, Vernon Parish Fire District No. 1 responded to a fire in the 3500 block of La. 399, according to SFM. Investigators said the home’s lone resident died.

While official identification and cause of death are pending, the victim is believed to be the 60-year-old male homeowner.

Investigators are working to determine where and how the fire started, but SFM said at least one space heater was in use at the time of the fire. Investigators have also been unable to confirm whether the home had working smoke alarms.

On Jan. 21, Vernon Parish Sheriff Sam Craft told 7News that someone he knew had died in a house fire on Monday. Officials suspect the fire was caused by a space heater. We’ve reached out to Craft to see if this is the same fire.
