President Trump is headed to China, and Congress returns just in time for National Police Week
WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - President Donald Trump is headed to China this week for a two-day summit in Beijing.
Trump is set to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping to discuss the “three T’s”: trade, technology and Taiwan. However, the backdrop of the war in Iran will loom over their conversation, potentially slowing any forward progress Trump has promised.
Beijing has deep economic ties to Tehran and is the largest buyer of Iranian oil. Any talk of trade or policy may be overshadowed by the situation in the Middle East.
Trump is expected to begin the summit Thursday.
Meanwhile, Congress returns from recess just in time for National Police Week. The annual event honors the sacrifice and dedication of law enforcement officers, memorializing those who gave their lives in the line of duty and advocating for those still in service.
Attendees in D.C. can expect candlelight vigils, services and a slew of safety-related bills discussed on the Hill.
