OPELOUSAS, LA (KPLC) - The Louisiana Swamp Pop musician Lil Bob of "Lil Bob and the Lollipops" fame has died.

KRVS radio's Herman Fuselier reported Monday that Camille Bob a.k.a. "Lil Bob" died of cancer in Opelousas. He was 77.

Bob, a singer and drummer, scored an instant hit with the song "I Got Loaded" in 1964. It remains a southern Louisiana favorite.

The Lollipops first recorded for Lake Charles' Goldband Records in 1957.

Bob's musical career also included dozens of other regional hits that continue to receive airplay today, and he continued to perform until just a few years ago.

In southern Louisiana, "I Got Loaded" is one of the most requested and covered songs. Artists Robert Cray, Keith Frank, Tab Benoit and Los Lobos are among the artists who have covered it.

The Los Lobos version can be heard in the 1987 movie, "Bull Durham," starring Kevin Costner and Susan Sarandon.

Funeral services for Bob are pending.
