CALCASIEU PARISH, LA (KPLC) -
The pastor known for local "Just for Jesus" rallies is facing charges in a drug case.
According to a news release from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office, James P. Bertrand Jr. has been charged with possession of CDS II (crack cocaine) and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Authorities said Bertrand was arrested after an alleged narcotics transaction outside a gas station on Country Club Road in Lake Charles.
Authorities said the incident reportedly happened around 3 a.m. Monday.
Authorities said deputies spotted a smoking device on Bertrand, in his back pocket.
Investigators said Bertrand tried to throw away a clear, plastic bag containing an off-white substance and tried to conceal the suspected crack cocaine in his mouth.
Authorities said Bertrand was released on $8,500 bond, set by Judge David Ritchie.
