Buddy Leach started out as a plumber, but went on to LSU Law School to get his degree and later become president of Sweetlake Land and Oil. His military career took place during the cold war of the late 1950's.

"I served at the Pentagon for almost three years," recalls Leach.  "This was a very broadening experience for a country boy from Leesville."

Leach served in Congress, the state legislature and ran for governor. He and his wife laura have long been known for their community service.

"Those of us fortunate to have the financial background to do thing beyond business should certainly do so," says Leach.  He says it's important for someone to become involved in volunteerism.

"We do this because if we can make a better community for others, we make it for us too. We make up a better tax structure too."

"Our young people are not getting enough character training. Some of them may. I believe the Boy and Girl Scouts can supplement what can be done at church and school and at home."
