UPDATE: Multiple injuries being reported in Sulphur school bus accident

SULPHUR, LA (KPLC) - The Calcasieu Parish School Board has confirmed a school bus was involved in an accident in Sulphur, according to spokeswoman Holly Holland.

The wreck reportedly happened at the intersection of Beglis Parkway and Patton Street, according to Sulphur Police Chief Lewis Coats.

An officer with Sulphur PD said, a car was heading westbound on Patton Street, east of Beglis Parkway and ran a red light when it struck the bus that was going southbound.

The driver of the car was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

About 40 students from Sulphur's ninth-grade campus and W.W. Lewis middle school were on the bus, according to Mel Estess with the Sulphur Police Department. Four students were sent to the hospital with minor injuries.

Students were released to their parents at the scene.
