CARLYSS, LA (KPLC) - The Lake Area Radio Kontrol Society celebrated their 50th anniversary Saturday, August 18, 2018 with a Model Aviation Day.
Those who attended the event, held at Larksfield Road in Carlyss, were able to see flying demonstrations throughout the day.
Model jets, warbirds, and helicopters were on display, and in the skies.
There were also free introductory flying lessons given so that attendees could test their piloting skills.
Bo Hinch, the organizer of the event, says he has loved aviation for as long as he can remember.
"As a young kid, 9, 10 years old, I growed up right west of Citgon and we would watch the World War airplanes as they would fly across...droves of them. And I always wanted to, my dream in life was to join the Air Force, learn to fly, and see the world at the government's expense."
An injury prevented him from going into the Air Force, so, a few years later he found a job that would let him travel the world. He says on his travels, he met his wife in the Philippines. He said he was able to live out his dream of flying.
He now says he wants others to see his passion through events LARKS.
