LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - Houston Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta said the Rockets will spend a few days during training camp in September practicing in McNeese's new on-campus basketball facility. The news was first reported by Mark Berman of Fox 26 Houston. The Rockets will stay at the Golden Nugget Hotel & Casino, also owned by Fertitta.
"It gives them a little bit of seclusion. They can concentrate," said Fertitta in a statement to Berman. "Then play golf, have fun and we have world-class suites we can put them all in."
McNeese Director of Athletics Bruce Hemphill issued a statement on the report.
"Hosting the Houston Rockets would be an honor. The Rockets are a first-class organization and we are building a first-class facility. The McNeese basketball teams will begin using the new facility in October with the first game scheduled for the women on November 11 and the men November 16. The contractor is focused on the final stages of completing the building. There are many details to discuss with many different people over the coming weeks."
McNeese wouldn't confirm the report and said that no other statements or remarks would be made at this time.
