Information on closings, cancellations and re-openings.

--The Women's Commission of SWLA has cancelled their Annual Conference originally scheduled for Thursday, October 20, 2005. For more information, call Melonie Himel at 526-7026. Please leave message on voicemail and your call will be returned.

--Tech Prep High School STEPS Program at Sowela will resume high school classes only on October 25.  Classes will meet Tuesday and Thursday only until further notice.  The revised schedule is as follows: 8am-9:15am English IV, 9:25-10:40am Environmental Science, Math courses.  Students are to report to Temporary Buildings #62 and #64 on the Sowela campus.  If you need information, please call 491-1711, 437-6102, or 437-6132.

--MSU Cowgirl Alumni Kicker Reunion scheduled for 10/27-10/29 is cancelled

--Calcasieu Parish Public Schools will re-open Oct 25, Tuesday.  The school days will be extended by 35 minutes.

--McNeese State University is tentatively scheduled to reopen the week of Oct. 24.

--Paychecks for McNeese State University employees normally scheduled to be paid 10/14 (Bi-weekly civil service, graduate assistants, visiting lecturers) were direct-deposited as usual. Employees in this payroll schedule that do not have direct deposit can pick-up their paycheck at the Cashier¹s Office beginning Monday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.

--1) All McNeese State University custodial, grounds and maintenance employees are to report to work on Monday, Oct. 17 at 8 a.m. These employees should report directly to the Physical Plant. All other employees should be ready to return to work upon a 24 hour notice. 2) Employees and students that have NOT reported contact information through the Information Line or Web site, should report by 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17.

--Sacred Heart of Jesus/Saint Katharine Drexel School will NOT open on Friday, October 14 due to unforseen circumstances.  They will now tentativley open on Monday Oct 17.

--Our Lady's School in Sulphur and Saint Louis High School will not open tomorrow due to unforseen circumstances.  Instead, they are tentativley set to open on Monday.

--Students in the West Orange - Cove school system will return to school Wednesday, Oct. 12.  Elementary students who attend Oates Elementary should report to that campus.All other elementary students should report to classes at Bancroft Elementary at 2300 41st Street. Sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students will report to classes at West Orange - Stark Middle School, and ninth through twelfth grade students will report to classes at WO-S High School. Classes will be conducted from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bus transportation will be provided to and from school. Morning transportation will begin at 8 a.m. Breakfast and lunch will also be provided for all students. A Day Camp for young children of West Orange - Cove employees will be provided beginning Oct. 12 at Bancroft Elementary. The camp is available free of charge for children ages six months through school age.

--Lamar-Orange staff should report to work on Thursday, October 13.  Students and faculty should report on October 17.

--SOWELA staff should plan on meeting at the Aviation Hanger on Tuesday, October 11 at 9 am. All faculty and staff, including adjunct and hourly employees, who are available, should attend this meeting.

--SOWLELA students should plan on meeting at the Aviation Hange on Thursday, October 13 at 10 am.

--Hamilton Christian Academy's official reopen date is Thursday 10/13/05. The Calcasieu Parish Public School System has 58 schools to assess, so the prior decision to follow the public school reopening date is a disadvantage to us. Many other private schools in the Lake Charles area are reopening Thursday 10/13/05.

--On Oct 14, the Calcasieu Parish School Board will announce the opening date for public schools.  Schools WILL NOT OPEN on Oct 14.

--The CPSB/Fiscal Management meeting scheduled for Oct 11 has been cancelled.

--The Partners in Education Kickoff is cancelled.

-- In Jeff Davis Parish, Our Lady Immaculate School in Jennings will have teachers reporting on Friday, October 7, with students reporting for classes on Monday, October 10 at the regular time

--In Calcasieu Parish the following schools will have teachers report on Tuesday October 11 and students reporting for classes on Thursday October 13 at the regular time: Immaculate Conception Cathedral School, Sulphur, and Saint Theodore's Holy Famil School in Moss Bluff.

--Our Lady Queen of Heaven will begin school on Oct. 17 instead of the Oct. 13.

--In Calcasieu Parish, two schools suffered a little more damage. Saint Margaret of Scotland School will have teachers report on Tuesday, October 11 and will tentativley have students report for classes on Monday, October 17 at the regular time.

--Lamar University in Orange, TX will be open on Monday, Oct 17.

--In Allen Parish, Reeves High School teachers and staff need to report to school Friday, Oct 7.  Reeves High students return to class Monday, Oct 10.

--Hamilton Christian Academy will open on the same day public schools in Calcasieu parish open. Although we feel the buildings can be ready earlier, logistics and communication problems make it implausible to stay with an earlier date. We regret any inconvenience the previous announcement may have caused. We will still have a work day this Saturday, October 8, beginning at 8:00 a.m. We are especially in need of mops and vacuum cleaners. --Barbe High School has received permission from PSAT to test Barbe sophomores and juniors on an alternate date, Nov. 2, at the Barbe High School Campus. The test was originally scheduled to be taken Oct. 15. Due to the circumstances caused by hurricane Rita, PSAT is waiving the registration fee for students. Barbe students will be allowed to register for the PSAT when classes resume.

--All Cal-Cam Fair pageants have been cancelled.

--Blazing Saddles Bicycle Tour Benefit Ride scheduled for October 8th has been postponed.  Riders will be notified when more information is available.

--LTC-Acadian Campus in Crowley will OPEN on Thursday, September 29, 2005 . SLCC in Franklin and New Iberia will remain CLOSED on Thursday, September 29, 2005 .

--LTC-Charles B. Coreil Campus in Ville Platte reopened on Tuesday, 9/27/05 . LTC-Evangeline Campus in St. Martinville and Cecilia reopened on Tuesday, 9/27/05 . LTC-Lafayette Campus in Lafayette reopened on Tuesday, 9/27/05 . LTC-T.H. Harris Campus in Opelousas reopened on Tuesday, 9/27/05 . LTC-Teche Area Campus in New Iberia reopened on Wednesday, 9/28/05 . SLCC in Lafayette reopened on Wednesday, 9/28/05 .

--LTC-Gulf Area Campus in Abbeville will remain CLOSED through at least Friday, 9/30/05 . LTC-Morgan Smith Campus in Jennings will remain CLOSED through at least Friday, 9/30/05 . LTC and SLCC are governed by the Louisiana Community and Technical College System (LCTCS) Board of Supervisors, which in turn comes under regulations set forth by the Louisiana Board of Regents for Higher Education.

*From Lynn Jones, Calcasieu Parish Clerk of Court: Elections scheduled for Oct 15 have been re-scheduled for Nov 12. Absentee voting will be held 2 weeks prior to the election. The Secretary of State said if the state is not ready, we will postpone again. The governor has signed an emergency declaration to postpone the elections.
