SULPHUR, LA (KPLC) - Sulphur Parks and Recreation officially opened the new Maplewood Commons with a ceremonial ribbon cutting today.
SPAR purchased the property 10 years ago, and have been looking to upgrade the area ever since. The park is complete with fountains, walking paths, benches, and a miniature library.
Steve Gayfield, the Director of SPAR District, said in a statement:
"We've got a lot of parks in a lot of places throughout the city and the district, but we don't have a lot of really nice pedestrian areas where it's quiet... This provides a chance for a more passive recreation."
This effort is part of SPAR's program to continue providing quiet natural spaces for residents to enjoy.
