LACASSINE, LA (KPLC) - A Lake Charles man has been arrested in connection with a homicide on Melanson Road in Lacassine.

Matthew Clement Markwood, 33, has been arrested on counts of second-degree murder and obstruction of justice. A mugshot is not yet available.

Authorities say the victim, Victor Paul Martin, 33, was shot twice with a shotgun.

Chief Deputy Chris Ivey, with the Jeff Davis Sheriff's Office, said they received a call referencing the homicide around 8 p.m. Thursday, but his body wasn't found until 6:30 a.m. Friday because it had been moved.

The body was found behind a log on a dirt path that extends off the end of Melanson Road.

Ivey said that once Markwood was identified as a suspect, a warrant was obtained to search his home. Lake Charles Police found items that possibly link him to the homicide.

Markwood is currently being questioned.
