LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - An explosion in a grain silo has been reported at the Port of Lake Charles, Executive Director Bill Rase confirms.
Rase said that preliminary indications are that there are no injuries.
Rase said that it appears the top blew off the silo, but that the cement and structure is intact. He said there was also damage to some of the silo's conveyer belts.
The doors of the administration building blew open when the explosion happened, but the was no damage to the building or any other port structures besides the silo.
The cause of the explosion has not been determined.
The silo is on ground leased by IFG Port Holdings.
KPLC has sent a reporter to the Port of Lake Charles and is working to gather more information.
