LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - Back in November three Barbe High School students were involved in a serious car accident when a driver swerved into their lane and hit them.
"I was going down the road and I (saw) a driver coming, fishtailing in his lane, and then he crossed over the center line and I jerked the wheel right, and he actually collided with my side, the driver side," said student Logan Robertson.
That was the moment when Robertson was hit. Student Grant LaBove was also in the car when the accident happened, but doesn't remember the actual crash.
"The last thing I remember, I was going to meet Logan... and I met him at Stines and that's literally the last thing I remember, said Grant. "Going down Nelson he asked what we were going to do today and, he said what are we doing today, and I said I don't know I guess we'll figure out as the day goes by."
Their day ended with them going to the hospital where Logan suffered back injuries, but Grant's injuries were a little more severe.
"I broke my jaw in three places, I broke my nose, I shattered both my orbitals, I shattered both my cheekbones," said Grant.
Now five months later both Logan and Grant are now preparing for their senior prom, and Grant decided to ask someone very special to be his date.
"I'd been living by (her) for 12 years so she's basically like my sister," said Grant."It just so happens she's Miss Louisiana."
Bethany Trahan who also happens to be Grant's neighbor is currently Miss Louisiana USA, and while Grant is taking her to prom, Logan is actually taking her sister to their prom Saturday night as well.
And while they have both fully recovered from the accident, it's something they both still think about daily, but their glad to still be alive, still be friends, and still have a chance to enjoy their last prom together.
