LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - Yellow Cab of Lake Charles offers its Safe Ride Home Program all year-round, offering discounted prices to customers who decide to make a responsible decision.
Their motto? "You be drinking; we be driving."
According to Louisiana State Police, 64 percent of all the fatal crashes Troop D investigated last year involved impaired drivers.
Alcohol is part of the plan for many on New Year's Eve and that's why personal injury lawyer, Ron Richard said taking a cab is your best bet.
"Every week I see horrible accidents that occur and many times it's someone driving drunk and there's no sense for anyone to ruin someone's life because they just want to go out and have a good time," said Richard.
Richard and Jordan Page, the owner of Yellow Cab, are teaming up to offer 100 free rides to party-goers, making the responsible choice at the end of Sunday and Monday night.
"Some people are responsible and call a cab; some people say screw it and take matters into their own hands," said Page.
And those who take it upon themselves to drive will have to face various checkpoints around the area.
"It's either ride home with us or go home with them," said Page.
Troop D has already announced a seatbelt and sobriety check scheduled for Friday.
"I think you'd rather ride home with us," said Page.
Of course, Yellow Cab isn't your only option.
Tiffany Watson, the co-owner of Able Taxi and Transportation is offering $10 rides within city limits throughout the weekend.
"You don't have to pick up your own keys; people get impatient; they want to get to their destination, but we will be honest with you and tell you exactly how long it will take us to get there," said Watson.
Before you pick up your keys this New Year's Eve to drive, think again; you aren't without inexpensive options.
