Three indicted in deadly Lewis Street home invasion

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - A grand jury on Thursday handed down three indictments in a deadly home invasion that happened in August.

Jacolby Jerome Cunigan, 23 and Jeremy Romaine LeBlanc, 26, were indicted on second-degree murder charges resulting from the Aug. 12 home invasion that left former McNeese football player Aaron Javone Sam, 23, dead.

In August, investigators said three armed men entered a home on Lewis Street in Lake Charles. Police say Sam was one of them. He was shot and killed during the incident.

But police said Sam did not live in the home and the homeowners did not shoot him.

Prosecutors instead blamed Cunigan and LeBlanc for the shooting.

The grand jury also indicted Daniel Sams, 24, also a former McNeese quarterback, for accessory after the fact to second-degree murder.
