DERIDDER, LA (KPLC) - A Leesville man was arrested on a fourth-offense DWI charge Friday afternoon after he caused a crash that sent a woman and two children to the hospital, authorities said.

Brian Lee Hayes, 48, was arrested after the two-vehicle crash, which happened around 3 p.m. on U.S. 171 at La. 112, east of DeRidder, said Sgt. James Anderson, Louisiana State Police Troop D spokesman.

Hayes was traveling south in the right lane of US 171 when his vehicle traveled from the right lane into the left lane, sideswiping the car driven by Erica Fowler, 29, of DeRidder, that was in the turn lane.

Fowler and two children in her vehicle were transported to Beauregard Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. Hayes was not injured.

"Drug impairment on the part of Hayes is suspected to be a factor in the crash," Anderson said. Hayes was also charged with improper lane usage.

He was booked into the Beauregard Parish Jail.

The crash remains under investigation.
