LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - The Lake Charles Divas of Dance - a majorette style dance team - competed on the Lifetime TV show 'Bring It' back in October.
They had a watch party Friday night when the show aired.
Although it was their first-time competing on the show, they did extremely well.
Three teams battled during the 'Clear the Lane' competition - including the well-known Dancing Dolls who they beat.
"When we went against the Dancing Dolls we were a little nervous because one, it was our first time being on TV battling and second of all because it's the Dancing Dolls. But we won, we won! We beat the Dancing Dolls," said coach Chelsea Thomas.
"We were shocked because we knew we were good but we didn't think we would win because they're nationally known and they're the best. But when they said the Divas of Dance won, we were like so excited," said captain Cydnee Stevens.
Thomas says they started out with six girls practicing in a library. Now, more than 50 girls battle and creative dance in their own studio at 1801 Kirkman Street.
"So, I'm proud and I'm thankful," said Thomas.
The Divas of Dance were invited back on the show and filmed in Arkansas last weekend for the Battle Royal semi-finals.
That battle includes nine teams and airs next month.
DOD says the last competition cost them about $4,000. To help them continue to compete, they're looking for sponsorship.
Thomas says anyone willing to help with finances can contact them on Facebook or call 870-209-3991.
The Divas of Dance are hosting a competition here in the Lake Area May 7. Details are pending.
