LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - The City of Lake Charles has now closed approximately 25 feet of the 100 block of Division Street because of a sinkhole.
Thru-traffic is allowable in the area.
City workers are "investigating the cause of the void and the lane will remain closed until all repairs are made," said Matt Young, city hall spokesman.
"The underground storm drain line that runs along the westbound lane of Division Street appears to have failed causing a void in the street," said Mister Edwards, public works director."This drain line empties into the lake and is subject to the fluctuating tides. High tides in the lake fill the line with water and make the repair more challenging. The City is currently coordinating an internal television inspection to determine the best course of action to repair the system. Once the drain line is repaired, we will resurface the street and reopen the lane."
"City officials say they are working as expeditiously as possible to restore the structural integrity of the road and request citizens are patient during this repair effort," Young said.
