LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - Two people from Iowa were killed in a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Red Davis McCollister Road and Southpark Drive late Saturday night, authorities said.
Deputies responded to a collision between a pickup truck and an SUV. Both vehicles were overturned in a nearby pasture.
The preliminary investigation reveals the truck failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection, colliding into the SUV.
Caleb Broussard, a passenger of the truck, was pronounced dead at the scene, while a second passenger, Robert Pyle, died later at a local hospital. Another passenger and the driver of the truck were transported to a local hospital. Both the driver and the passenger of the SUV were transported to a local hospital for treatment. The passenger of the SUV was treated and released, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Kim Myers said.
The investigation is continuing and charges may be filed pending the outcome of the investigation. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor, but mandatory toxicology tests are being conducted, Myers said.
