LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - Two people are dead following an early morning head-on collision on La. 397 in Calcasieu Parish, according to a news release.

Sgt. James Anderson said Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a two-vehicle crash on La. 397 about a mile north of Interstate 10 about 6:30 a.m. Saturday. The investigation revealed a 2004 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by 28-year-old Cortny Paul Vidalier of Rayne was traveling northbound when the pickup crossed the center line colliding head-on with a southbound Hyundai Genesis driven by 30-year-old Erin Michael Atlow of Lake Charles.

"After the collision, both vehicles were spun around and traveled into ditches along each side of the highway. The pickup truck caught fire and both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene by the Calcasieu Parish Coroner's Office. There were no other occupants in the vehicles." Anderson said.

Toxicology samples are pending and the crash remains under investigation.
