MOSS BLUFF, LA (KPLC) - A Lake Charles man was killed in a two-vehicle accident on North Perkins Ferry Road late Sunday night, authorities said.
Vance Charles, 63, died after his 2014 GMC pickup truck was struck from behind by a 2006 GMC pickup truck driven by Lake Charles man Michael Dugas, 48, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Kim Myers said.
Dugas was booked into Calcasieu Correctional Center on one count of first-offense DWI. Dugas also had an outstanding warrant for contempt of court, Myers said. His bond is pending.
Charles was traveling north on North Perkins Ferry Road when he pulled into a parking lot near Mohican Drive to turn around, Myers said. Charles backed onto North Perkins Ferry Road and began to travel south when Dugas struck him from behind.
Charles was pronounced dead at a local hospital, Myers said. A front-seat passenger was airlifted to a local hospital and is in stable condition.
Because Dugas showed "obvious signs of impairment," he was transported to a hospital for toxicology testing, Myers said. Results are pending. Dugas and a front-seat passenger in his truck both refused medical treatment.
