Body of man who fell from boat recovered in Cameron Parish

CAMERON PARISH, LA (KPLC) - The body of a man who fell off a boat while fishing in the Old River area of Cameron Parish has been recovered.

Authorities with Wildlife and Fisheries said the body of Ronald Bernard Moore, 44, was recovered around 9 a.m. Monday.

Wildlife and Fisheries, the Cameron Parish Sheriff's Office and the Coast Guard began searching around 4 p.m. Friday after witnesses saw Moore fall out of an aluminum flat boat in the Old River, off the end of Wakefield Road.

A nearby boat and other witnesses tried to help, Cameron Parish Sheriff Ron Johnson said.

"The boat was circling the victim in the water. Witnesses were on a dock and tried to lower their boat in time to get to the victim. The victim stayed up about three minutes, then went down into the water and the witness (who called 911) did not see him anymore," he said.

"(Moore) was reportedly going to a butterfly barge to go shrimping," Johnson said.

Witnesses said Moore fell out of the boat because it hit a mudflat.
