CALCASIEU PARISH, LA (KPLC) - The head of Louisiana State Police commended a man who stopped to help a wounded trooper Sunday afternoon.
Robert Ledoux, a passing motorist, stopped to help Steven Vincent, 44, who was shot in the line-of-duty Sunday afternoon near Bell City after investigating a report of an erratic driver, authorities said.
"I do want to tell you we have so many heroes in this area but I couldn't be any prouder of Robert Ledoux," Colonel Mike Edmonson said in a news conference Monday morning.
According to Sgt. James Anderson, Troop D spokesman, State Trooper Steven Vincent was pronounced dead at 8 a.m. Monday morning.
Trooper Vincent, a 13-year veteran of the state police force, was married with a 9-year-old son. Both of his brothers are in law enforcement — Keith Vincent is the Chief of Police in Iowa and Terrell Vincent is a fellow state trooper.
Col. Edmonson spoke about Ledoux and expressed his gratitude as well as saying how proud he was that Ledoux had helped Trooper Vincent in his time of need.
