LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - A Lake Charles man has been charged with third-offense DWI after crashing into a business early Sunday morning, state police said.

Sgt. James Anderson, spokesman for Troop D, said shortly before 5:30 a.m. 26-year-old Justin W. Gillard drove a 2011 Ford F-150 pickup truck off of La. 385 (Common Street), through a parking lot and into the front wall of a business causing significant damage. He was not injured and no one was inside the business at the time of the crash.

"Gillard later submitted to a breath test for intoxication.  The result indicated that his blood alcohol level was over 2 ½ times the legal limit," Anderson said.

He has been charged with third-offense DWI, careless operation, driving with a suspended driver's license and open alcoholic beverage container according to Anderson.
