Fourth of July events and closures in SWLA

The following events and closures have been announced in Southwest Louisiana in accordance with the Independence Day holiday:


Beauregard Parish:

American Legion Post 27: The American Legion in DeRidder, 176 La.112, is putting on a Fourth of July celebration. There will be free hot dogs, hamburgers and entertainment. There will be a fireworks display shortly after dark. It's being called the "biggest fireworks display in the parish." For information, call the post at 337-463-5765.

Old-fashioned Fourth of July Celebration: Saturday, July 4 from 7-9 p.m. on Washington Ave. in downtown DeRidder. There will be free burgers, hot dogs and watermelon. Drinks are $1 each. Activities will include live music, fun jumps, a pie-eating contest, a hula hoop contest and a firework display. For more information, call 337-462-8900.

Calcasieu Parish:

Red, White, Blue & You: Saturday, July 4 in downtown Lake Charles. There will be a parade at 6 p.m. on downtown Ryan St., followed by live music at 6:30 p.m. and a Salute to Armed Forces at 8 p.m. at the outdoor amphitheatre near the Lake Charles Civic Center.* A firework display will take place at 9:15 p.m. at the lake. All events are free and open to the public. If there is inclement weather, concerts will be moved inside the Civic Center Coliseum. For more information, call 337-491-1200.

*The concert and patriotic program for the Red White Blue & You Festival will be moved into the Lake Charles Civic Center Coliseum. The program is still schedule to begin at 6:30 p.m.

Cameron Parish:

Holly Beach fireworks: This is the sixth year that Holly Beach community members have donated money to purchase the fireworks.Last year's display lasted more than 30 minutes. The show begins about 9 p.m. For more information, call 318-465-1668.

Vernon Parish:

Freedom Fest 2015: Saturday, July 4 at Headquarters Field on Fort Polk. The event is free and open to the public. There will be no on-site parking. Shuttle buses will begin running at 4:30 p.m. There will be military equipment displays, games, food and craft vendors. Country artists Trace Adkins and Lonestar will perform at 6 and 8:15 p.m., respectively. A firework display will take place at 9:45 p.m. For more information, call 531-4271.


Acadia Parish:

Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office: Administrative offices closed Friday, July 3.
City of Crowley: Offices closed Friday, July 3.

Beauregard Parish:

City of DeRidder:
Offices closed Friday, July 3.

Calcasieu Parish:

Calcasieu Parish Police Jury:
Offices closed Friday, July 3. East Maintenance Facility, West Maintenance Facility and Water District #5 closed Thursday, July 2. Solid Waste Facilities in Lake Charles and Sulphur closed Saturday, July 4. No changes to residential garbage pickup.

Calcasieu Parish Public Library: All branches closed Saturday, July 4.

City of Lake Charles: Offices closed Friday, July 3. No changes to residential garbage pickup.

City of Sulphur: Offices closed Friday, July 3. No changes to residential garbage pickup.

Lafayette Parish:

Lafayette Consolidated Government: No changes to residential garbage or recycling collection.

Lafayette Transit System: Offices closed Friday, July 3. No Daytime, Night Owl or Para-transit services on Saturday, July 4.
