Local religious leaders meet for Religious Freedom Rally in Sulphur

Sulphur community members, religious leaders, local leaders, and political leaders came together for the fourth annual Religious Freedom Rally. People from all religious backgrounds united for the same purpose: to support religious rights.
"Today more than ever the question is to what degree can the government force religious people to participate in actions which are contrary to their beliefs," said Father Edward Richard of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church. "The idea is to bring together people of different interests, different faiths, to talk about, to speak about, to promote, the first amendment rights to religious freedom."
The day long event was held from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. with speeches from religious leaders and music from local musicians. The event supports First Amendment rights protecting the freedom of religion.
"I think there's beginning to be more issues every day with religious freedom. I think the church has stepped aside to much and allowed too many governmental entities to control the church and the church is not to be controlled by government, it's to be free," said Pastor Clay Fontenot with Truth Apostolic Church.
