Longtime employee at Lake Charles Civic Center dies

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - A longtime community fixture and employee at the Lake Charles Civic Center has passed away.

According to family members, 64-year-old John 'Denver' Kaufman of Lake Charles died Monday at his residence after a brief illness.

He was a life-long resident of Lake Charles and a graduate of Lake Charles High School. He attended McNeese State University and went on to become assistant manager for the Lake Charles Civic Center.

Kaufman had a front row seat for shows and worked at almost every major event at the Civic Center.

Services for Kaufman will be handled by Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation is set for 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home and 10-11 a.m. on Thursday at St. Paul Lutheran Church. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the church. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens.
