ELTON (KATC) - The body of a missing Elton woman was found in a pond on Tuesday in St. Landry Parish.
Earthy Maye Griffith, 61, was reported missing by her husband at about 9 a.m. on Monday.
"Around 10 a.m. Monday, a couple from Elton was in Eunice, and they recognized Earthy and stopped to see if she needed a ride," said Allen Parish Sheriff Doug Hebert. "She said yes, and they drove for a bit, and then she asked to be let out near a store. That was the last time anyone reports seeing her."
Working with Eunice Police, officials tracked her cell phone signal in an attempt to locate her. The phone led them to a location off of Swan Lake Lane in Elton, where officers found a jacket on the ground with the cell phone inside.
A body, believed to be Griffith, was found in a nearby pond. The St. Landry Parish Coroner pronounced her dead at the scene, and at this time, no foul play is suspected.
The investigation continues.
