LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - Brent Young, a detective sergeant with Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office, pulled double duty Monday morning when a small vehicle fire broke out near the KPLC studio.
The fire began around noon in the bed of a pickup truck that was parked across the street from the station.
Two women who were passing by reported the fire to 911 and the Lake Charles Fire Department arrived on the scene in less than five minutes, but Young beat them to the punch.
Young, who has been with the Sheriff's Office for 17 years, said he was driving and saw smoke coming out of the bed of the pickup truck.
He used an extinguisher from his vehicle to put out the fire before it got out of hand.
