SULPHUR, LA (KPLC) - A former Lake Charles resident is dead and a Moss Bluff man is in custody following a head-on crash on Interstate 10 Saturday night, authorities said.

Sulphur Police Chief Lewis Coats said Derek Paul Cooper, 28, has been arrested on a DWI charge and 31-year-old Jeremy Anthony Olivier was killed in the late-night crash.

Coats said Cooper was traveling the wrong direction on I-10 westbound when he collided with Olivier at the top of the Ruth Street overpass.

Olivier, who moved from Lake Charles to Port Arthur, Texas, last year, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Cooper was brought to West Cal-Cam Hospital for blood testing and could face more charges.

The accident remains under investigation by Sgt. AJ Powell of the Sulphur Police Department.
