Bicyclist hospitalized after being hit by car

ACADIA PARISH, LA (KPLC) - The Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office is investigating a vehicle accident involving a bicyclist left one person hospitalized.

Deputies received the call at about 8 a.m. on Tuesday. According to investigators, a 27-year-old woman was riding a bicycle in the 1100 block of Fournerat Road heading east. The woman was struck from behind by a vehicle that was also heading east.

"Witnesses advised that the female (victim) was thrown from her bicycle and landed in a nearby ditch with the bicycle landing on top of her. She was transported by Air Med to a Lafayette Hospital with a broken leg and other possible minor injuries," said Maxine Trahan, Public Information Officer with the Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office.

The investigation remains ongoing, and no charges have been filed against the driver at this time.
