LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - For most, social media is a part of our every day lives. From Facebook to Twitter, and Instagram - the possibilities to connect with people around world are endless.

The Southwest Louisiana Convention and Visitors Bureau and the SWLA Economic Development Alliance are hosting a "Get Social" forum Tuesday. They've brought in social media expert Crystal Washington, who specializes in creating strategies for businesses to maximize their effectiveness through social media.

"Social media is constantly changing. It's one of those things you can't master. If you are a small business or a destination manager - you want to be aware of social media because it's where people are going to make purchases. So if you are trying to increase your client base -- social media is the place you need to be," said Washington.

The seminars begin Tuesday morning at the McNeese SEED Center. The beginners class is from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. followed by the advanced class from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. According to organizers, there is still limited space available.
