Correctional officer charged with malfeasance in office

ST. MARTIN PARISH, LA (KPLC) - A correctional officer with the St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office has been arrested on numerous charges.

Following an investigation by the sheriff's office into contraband being introduced into the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center, 22-year-old Marshall Babineaux Jr. of Breaux Bridge was arrested.

Babineaux Jr. was booked into the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center on one count of Malfeasance in Office, one count of Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana and two counts of Introduction of Contraband in a Penal Institution.

"Marshall Babineaux had been employed by the St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office since August of 2013," said Major Ginny Higgins, Public Information Officer with the sheriff's office, in a news release. "Babineaux remains incarcerated in the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center and bond has not been set."
