JEFF DAVIS PARISH, LA (KPLC) - The Jeff Davis Parish Police Jury voted Wednesday night to ban so-called saggy pants.

The jurors unanimously approved amending an ordinance making it unlawful for any person in public to wear pants below the waist that exposes skin or undergarments.

The Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff's Office will issue fines to anyone violating the ordinance.

Police Juror Steve Eastman said saggy pants have been a long-running problem in the parish.

"I had complaints from security guards around the courthouse that there was issues with people not being respectfully dressed in the courtroom area," East man said. "So initially I was going to be for on the courthouse grounds, and the other jurors felt that it was important parish-wide."

No word yet on the amount of the fines.
