DERIDDER, LA (KPLC) - An autopsy is underway to determine the cause of death of a Beauregard Parish inmate found dead in his cell.

According to Beauregard Parish Sheriff Chief Deputy Joe Toler, inmate David Peake, 49, of DeRidder, was found unresponsive and not breathing in his cell around 3 p.m. Friday.

Corrections officers reported that Peake, who was in a cell by himself, was observed when the noon meal was served, to be asleep.

A cell check conducted thereafter found that Peake had expired.

An autopsy by the Calcasieu Parish Coroners Office has been requested.

At this time, Toler reports that no foul play is suspected.

Peake was awaiting disposition regarding a recent arrest for remaining at a location after being forbidden.

The Sheriff's Office wishes to extend its condolences to the Peake family in their time of loss.
