Officials said more than 40 vehicles were involved in a crash on Texas state Highway 73 near the Veolia plant in Labelle, Texas south of Beaumont, Texas before 6:30 a.m. Thursday morning.
When emergency crews arrived at the scene, two cars were on fire and a tanker-truck was overturned.
Charles Sonnier, Chief of the Labelle-Fannett Fire Department said four people had to be rescued using the Jaws of Life.
10 people were taken to the hospital with injuries. Four of the victims were listed in critical condition.
Officials said a build-up of fog and smoke from the Marsh wildfires is what contributed to the accident.
All eastbound and westbound lanes of U.S. 73 are closed west of Taylor's Bayou.
