SWLA welcomes the USS Collett annual reunion

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) - Southwest Louisiana welcomes the USS Collett annual reunion.
A group of veteran sailors and their guests will be touring Lake Charles from October 5th to Oct 9th.
They are coming primarily to tour the USS ORLECK Naval Museum, as they are all familiar with the ship. On Thursday, Oct 6th from 1:00pm to 3:30pm the veterans will tour the Orleck.
USS Collett (DD-730)
"The USS Collett was launched March 5, 1944 by Bath Iron Works Corp., Bath, Maine. It was sponsored by Mrs. C. C. Baughman as proxy for Mrs. J. D. Collett and commissioned at the Boston Navy Yard on May 16, 1944 with Commander James D. Collett, the brother of LCDR Collett, in command. was a World War II-era Allen M. Sumner-class destroyer in the service of the U.S. Navy. It was named after Lieutenant Commander John A. Collett (1908-1942), a Naval Aviator and commanding officer of Torpedo Squadron TEN, who was killed during the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands in October 1942."
