LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC-TV) – More than a hundred bikers participated in Louisiana Fallen Officer Memorial Ride.

The motorcycle ride, sponsored by the Blue Knights Motorcycle Club, is a benefit that honors law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.

"Throughout the United States, we had some police officers killed over the last year," said Charles Ipes, Blue Knights media relations specialist.

Lee Perkins, with the fallen heroes motorcycle riding club, which also participated in the fallen officer memorial ride, knows something about serving on active duty. He was not only a civilian officer; he also wore the uniform in the military.

"Fire, military, army, navy, air force, marines, coast guards...anybody who died on active duty, we're riding for them," said Perkins.

The bikers stopped in DeRidder, where even more bikers joined in on the journey, which ultimately ended on Louisiana Highway 1 near Shreveport.

Proceeds from the  memorial ride will benefit the C.O.P.S. program.
