Danae Leake

WAFB Digital Content Producer

Baton Rouge, La

Danae hails from Jacksonville, located in the world's famous county (Duuuval), and moved to Baton Rouge to work as a digital content producer for WAFB.

As a child, she always loved stories and how they can provide glimpses into other worlds.

While studying English and Mass Communication at the University of North Florida, Danae was very active in the university's student media, the UNF Spinnaker, and worked multiple positions at the publication. She started out as a reporter, writing anything from feature pieces to breaking news stories. Danae was later promoted to leadership roles by becoming the Spinnaker’s news assistant editor and WSKR’s first radio news producer. During her final year at UNF, she was the features editor. In that position, she led a talented team of writers and managed community-oriented content for the UNF population.

Danae had fallen in love with the newswriting process and how journalism serves and empowers the community.

The Duval native took her passion beyond the classroom and campus setting through editorial internships at WJCT, the National Public Radio affiliate in Jacksonville, and Jacksonville Magazine.

After graduating in 2016, Danae landed a position as a Digital Content Producer at Action News Jax, WJAX-TV, where she produced local breaking news and managed the station's website and social media pages. In addition, she wrote community-focused stories for Void magazine.

Danae left her hometown of Jacksonville in 2017 to work as a digital news reporter at WAFB News in Baton Rouge, the No. 1 station in the Gray TV company.

In Baton Rouge, Danae produces local news stories while managing and chasing leads for the station’s inaugural business news section.
