LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - A 55-year-old Texas man was killed Oct. 21 in a two-vehicle crash on La. 27 near La. 384, according to Louisiana State Police Troop D.

Troopers say the crash happened shortly after 7 p.m. A 2018 Ford F-150 pulling a grain hopper was stopped on La. 27, waiting to turn left onto La. 384. A 2019 Harley-Davidson was heading south on La. 27 behind the truck.

Investigators say for reasons still unknown, the motorcycle did not stop and hit the back of the grain hopper.

The motorcyclist died at the scene from his injuries. Troopers say he was wearing a federally approved helmet at the time.

Impairment is not suspected, but troopers say routine toxicology samples were taken and sent for testing as part of the ongoing investigation.

State police are reminding drivers to make safe choices behind the wheel and encouraging motorcycle riders to take an approved safety course to improve riding skills and awareness.
