Sulphur man with brass knuckles arrested on felonies; possibly carrying explosive device, more
LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - A Sulphur man with brass knuckles was arrested for assaulting three victims, carrying brass knuckles, and possibly in possession of an explosive device, deputies say.
On July 24 at 12:30 a.m., Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies were flagged down by a woman standing on the side of U.S. 171 in Lake Charles. When deputies pulled over, a truck fled the scene.
Deputies say the woman looked like she needed medical attention. The woman then told deputies about another victim who was unconscious in a nearby ditch.

Deputies say the man who fled in the truck, identified as Cyle H. Burnett, 37, Sulphur, had battered three victims. Deputies located Burnett, who was driving recklessly, and conducted a traffic stop. He was found to be in possession of brass knuckles.
Investigators say Burnett was possibly in possession of an explosive device inside the truck. After a search warrant was obtained, the Louisiana State Police bomb detection team was called to examine the object.
The two victims were transported to a local hospital to be treated for their injuries.
Burnett was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center for the following:
- Aggravated second degree battery (3 counts)
- Illegal carrying of weapons
- Reckless operation
- Traffic Citation
His bond is pending.
The investigation is continuing and more charges are likely. CPSO Violent Crimes detective Shane Broussard is the lead investigator on this case.
