LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - It’s that time of year again when current and incoming McNeese students are looking to apply for financial aid for the 2026 - 2027 academic year. We spoke with Katie Starling this morning to get the details.

Now is the time to fill out the FAFSA, or the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, for the 2026-2027 academic year at www.studentaid.gov.

The FAFSA is for high school seniors, continuing college students, or anyone interested in furthering their education and seeking financial resources to help.

McNeese is hosting a FAFSA completion event, which will be open to the public on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2026, in the Frazar Memorial Library. This event is for anyone who needs help with the FAFSA.

The FAFSA opens the door for grants and loans to make paying for college easier.

McNeese Financial Aid Priority Deadline is May 1, so that students’ grants and loans are ready for the fall semester.

This year, FAFSA changes include a simplified parent/contributor invitation, that Pell grants can no longer exceed the cost of attendance, asset exclusions, and prorated loans for students who are not full-time.

For help on the FAFSA or questions regarding the event, you can contact McNeese Student Central, located in Chozen Hall, at 337-475-5065 or email studentcentral@mcneese.edu.
