Homemade canoes to set sail tomorrow at Lake Charles STEM competition
LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - Aspiring canoe builders will once again set sail from North Beach in Lake Charles tomorrow for the third annual Canoe Building Competition.
The event, hosted by the City of Lake Charles and the Region 5 STEM Center, will begin at 10 a.m. and last until 2 p.m. on May 3.
Geared towards middle, high school, college and adults, teams can now register to participate in this unique contest. Teams will work to build their own cardboard canoe and then will have the opportunity to put their creation to the test. Cardboard, tape and safety gear will be provided to teams. This will be a free and open-to-the-public spectator event.
Prizes will be awarded for functionality, design and more!
