TDL Week Six Game of the Week Preview - Leesville Wampus Cats
LEESVILLE, La. (KPLC) - The Leesville Wampus Cats head into week six with a 4-1 record now they begin district play against a new district opponent in the Iowa Yellow Jackets who are also 4-1 but head coach Robert Causey says their non-district schedule has prepared them for these moments.
“We try to prepare ourselves for a tough road with our non-district schedule to get ready for these kinds of ball games they’re well coached they got players all over the place they are fast and physical on both sides of the football it’s going to be a tough ball game oughta be a good one for people to come watch it’ll be a good game," Leesville head coach Robert Causey said.
Come Friday night all eyes will be on Leesville’s Xavier Ford who needs just one touchdown to tie, and two touchdowns to break former Leesville running back Cecil Collins’s all-time Wampus Cat touchdown record of 93.
“It means a lot because a lot of people talk about him all around the world. Him having a career at LSU and him just being able to play at Leesville it just makes me feel proud of myself because I’ve been working so hard to get here so you know honestly it makes me feel good and I’m just ready to go get it and break it and set a new record, something higher," said Leesville running back Xavier Ford.
The Wampus Cats know going head to head with the yellow jackets will be a challenge but one they feel ready for
“It’s a big game, district championship type game everything is going to be hard we just have to execute and we’ll win," said Leesville free safety Damir Davis.
