Sulphur police investigating juvenile fatality on Hwy 90
Lake Charles, LA (KPLC) - The Sulphur Police Department is investigating a fatal crash involving a child on Hwy 90. Police say that child was a 7-year-old little girl.
Authorities document three people inside the vehicle - an older woman and two juveniles. Investigators say the other child and woman have minor injuries. Police say their vehicle hit a tree and the 7-year-old was improperly restrained in the backseat. The accident occurred east of Kim Street, near Victory Worship Center and the American Legion building.
Witnesses describe the chaotic scene.
“I was driving on Highway 90 and there were several police cars and they pulled out here on Highway 90 to an accident,” witness Shae Sprigg said. “I just saw fire trucks, a whole lot of police cars and traffic started to back up on this road.”
Authorities are urging drivers to be vigilant and properly fasten themselves and others in their seat belts.
Just last June, a separate wreck on Highway 90 claimed another life. Witnesses say this road is home to several fatal crash sites.
“It’s really sad, our class reunion is right here off this road tonight and I just hope everyone can be really safe and pay attention,” Sprigg said. “I would say this has always been a really dangerous road going down to one lane or like the single lane roads.”
More information will be released when it is available regarding the victim’s identity.
