Lake Charles, LA (KPLC) - The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office has one person in custody following a shooting on South Post Oak Road in Sulphur Saturday afternoon.

Authorities say Jose Mosqueda, 29, of Mission, Texas was shot and killed inside a trailer.

“One subject stabbed the other one and the other subject ended up shooting him,” Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Chief Deputy Stitch Guillory said. “The guy that one shot is deceased at this point. We have one person detained for questioning.”

Investigators later arrested Oscar Lucero, 34, of Hidalgo, Texas on second degree murder charges.

Witnesses, startled by gunfire, describe what happened after hearing it.

“I was nosy - I was like what the hell happened but when I found out - it was the trailer where the truck and the SUV was at and the fact that there were gunshots I was like somebody got killed? And then I saw the crime scene tape and was like wow,” a witness said.

Authorities point to a pattern of violence throughout the parish.

“It appears we have an uptick in crime like in this situation, these two subjects knew each other, they were coworkers,” Guillory said. “There appeared to be alcohol involved and possibly some drug usage involved.”
