LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury invites volunteers to participate in a parishwide cleanup event May 1-15 as part of its ‘Pick It Up Calcasieu’ initiative.

The cities of Lake Charles, Sulphur, Westlake and Vinton have pre-selected roads, streets and locations with litter issues that will be available for cleanup.

Volunteers are encouraged to sign up in groups, such as teams of family members, neighbors, friends, coworkers, church groups or community organizations. All volunteers will be supplied with free trash bags, gloves, pickers and vests.

Volunteers will be required to watch an online safety video and sign waivers before participating.

“We will only be successful in fighting the litter issue in our area if we work together, which is why partnerships are so important,” said Wyvette Pryor-Cousin, Litter Manager. “We are excited to be working in conjunction with these cities to get the area cleaned. Time and time again, it has shown that when we work together as a unified community, we can accomplish great things.”

To sign up, visit pickitupcalcasieu.com and follow the prompts.
