LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - Amid the national health crisis, Lake Charles is now welcoming an upgraded Acadian Ambulance Service with its newly constructed facility.

“Now more than ever with the pandemic and COVID-19, you know, the amount of people needing medical services, 911 is busy, and we continue to staff as many ambulances as we can to meet the demand of the 911 system, and just to provide medical care to those in need,” said John Dubose, the operations manager for Acadian Ambulance.

Taking about a year to complete, the $1.9 million facility will serve as a dispatch center for ambulances, as well as provide office space and classroom for EMT students.

“We really outgrew our old place, we were scattered throughout the city in a couple of different locations, and this just gives us an opportunity to put everyone in one centralized location,” Dubose added.

Dubose says this multi-million dollar investment will bring more foot traffic to the area.

“We’re going to have anywhere from 30-50 students every day, plus i may have 20-30 ambulance personnel in here every day, so some of these local businesses, I think, might see an increase, whether it be buying lunches at lunchtime or just getting basic refreshment throughout the day,” he said.

And while he says the reception has been great, he hopes this new investment can attract future businesses to the area.

“The city is excited to have us opening this facility,” he said. “Hopefully, it will encourage some other businesses to look at this market and look at this region.”

The new Acadian Ambulance facility is on Enterprise Boulevard, a welcome investment in a part of the city that was in desperate need of economic development.
