LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - A 57-year-old man died in a house fire in Sulphur Thursday, authorities said.

According to State Fire Marshal deputies, it happened in 3400 block of Nellie Royer Road at around 4:45 p.m.

While a name has not been released, deputies say the man who died is believed to be the 57-year-old owner of the home, who was mobility-limited.

Relatives had stopped by the home to bring the resident food and found the man unresponsive in a bedroom, in which there was a small fire, according to the State Fire Marshal’s Office. The relatives were able to put the fire out.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office is still working to determine the exact cause of the fire, but is not ruling out smoking materials that were not properly put out.

More information will be released as it becomes available.
