FIRST ALERT FORECAST: A rainy start to our week, cooler and drier weather not far away
LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - A mild and muggy start to our Monday as we are sitting in the upper 60′s with a strong southerly breeze bringing in plenty of moisture off of the Gulf. Many locations are starting off this morning dry, but that will be changing as we head into the afternoon as the cold front pushes through the region into later today.
Temperatures hold pretty steady throughout the rest of the morning maybe dropping another degree or so by sunrise, but you’ll definitely be able to leave the winter coat in the closet today. However, you’ll need to grab the rain jacket and umbrella before heading out this morning as showers and even a few storms will be possible through mid-morning and into the early afternoon hours. The streak of days with little to no sunshine will continue today as clouds will be locked firmly in place, but we still see a warm afternoon as highs climb into the lower 70′s. The best chance of rain arrives as we head towards 10 am and will be sticking around until the early afternoon with rain slowly diminishing as we head into the evening and overnight hours. Now this cold front won’t clear us completely out as cloud cover will stick around for Tuesday as well, but there could be a few peaks of sunshine into the afternoon tomorrow.
Our above average temperatures that have been around since last week will continue at least through the middle of the week before, yep you guessed it another cold front moves through bringing a few shower chances with it, but also a brief cool down to end the week. Highs stay steady into the middle and upper 60′s through Wednesday and after the front passes highs drop about ten degrees into the middle and upper 50′s for Thursday. The one positive thing is that sunshine will also be accompanying the cooler weather and will be sticking around through Friday as we see southerly wind returning.
Once the wind turns back around from the south on Saturday our cloud cover and temperatures will be on the rise as well with highs reaching the upper 60′s and lower 70′s for next weekend. Models continue to show the next system with the best chance of rain arriving just in time for next weekend with rain chances the highest next Sunday. Of course there is still plenty of time to watch that, with the main focus on today’s rain chances and of course you can always get the latest look at radar using the KPLC First Alert Weather App.
